Fund individual counseling, up to 12 sessions, for 50 educators in Shelby County.
Individual Counseling for Educators in Shelby County.
Complex stress and challenges with teaching during a pandemic have impacted educators’ mental health and retention in the field. Educators are experiencing higher rates of work stress; as a result, teacher shortages are occurring both locally and nationally.
Educators are not typically viewed from a marginalization lens, but the educator population comprises marginalized individuals. Systemically marginalized community members experience limitations through work-based access to quality mental health services, the financial capacity to afford insurance co-pays or self-pay fees, or the resources to advocate for quality mental health professionals to support their unique needs. In addition, mental health practitioners in small, private practices have the qualifications to provide services but often do not have the administrative resources or capacity to accept insurance.
Fund self-care sessions, up to 3 sessions, for 25 educators in Shelby County.
Self-Care Session for Educators in Shelby County
Educators work in a high-intensity environment. Educators are academically equipped to educate our community’s youth; however, educators often struggle with taking the time to care for themselves and prioritize their health and happiness. The purpose of self-care sessions is to help educators incorporate self-care practices into their daily routines so they are better equipped to maintain healthy and thriving learning environments for our youth. When educator stress is left unaddressed, it contributes to burnout and high teacher turnover.
Fund Youth Mental Health First Aid training for 10 youth-serving organizations in the Mid-South.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Youth Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors and health and human services workers, and any other citizen how to identify, understand, and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Youth Mental Health First Aid is available in English and Spanish.
